Question OT- Warn 8274 overhaul

Not sure if this is the "right" forum , but I know there is way more traffic here.

I have an 8274 winch that was used in other than Jeeping needs and is at least 28-30 years old. I believe it still works, but I heard a rumor a few years ago that Warn would rework/rebuild these for less than a new one.

So my question is, has anyone ever sent a winch to Warn for R&R? Most dealers just order them in and don't do work on them. I figure it is paid for and when ever I get the Body R&R done on my '8 it may just need to have the winch finally mounted.

Let me know your thoughts.

There's not a whole lot to those winches. Dive in and build it yourself. You'll find out that it's probably in better condition than what you think-

Here's how to do it yourself.
I've pondered doing it with one I've got and putting it on the Charity 8.

Edit:

...and one other I just found.

Thanks for the links.

If/when I get my first attempt at repainting the '8 done, I may attempt it myself.
